Sunny India of the Aslamazyans-An Exhibition

March 31, 2017.

2017 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Armenia. Indo-Armenian Friendship NGO, having worked for over 5 years towards strengthening the bond between the two countries, could not be indifferent to this milestone achievement. Hence, on this occasion, Indo-Armenian Friendship NGO has planned out a list of programs throughout the year to celebrate the close ties both our countries have shared, both historically and bilaterally.  The celebrations commenced on 29th March, with the Second Indo-Armenian Friendly Chess tournament between the Indian and Armenian students of Yerevan State Medical University.

Important among the list of programs aimed at celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Armenia was the exhibition organised in collaboration with The Gallery of Mariam and Yeranuhi Aslamazians in Gyumri, the second largest city of Armenia. The paintings that were displayed during the exhibition were influenced by the travels of the Aslamazian sisters in India, especially by their meetings with Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the second Prime Minister of India, who is also depicted in the paintings of Mariam Aslamazian as a tribute to her and the role of women in politics and social life. Mrs. Aslamazian also played a vital role in the visit of Mrs. Indira Gandhi to Armenia in 1976, which continues to be one of the most important pages of the friendly ties between India and Armenia.
