Indo-Armenian Friendship FC advances to Knockout Stage
The Indo-Armenian Friendship Football Club has advanced to the knockout stage of the CPC Football Championship currently being held in Kolkata India.
The annual football tournament, organized by the city’s Parsee Club has emerged as one of the most popular football competitions in the city, and this is the second consecutive year that IAF FC is also taking part in the competition.
After the first leg of the group matches, IAF is currently ranked 2nd in Group H, having won 3 out of 4 matches and lost 1 match against last year’s finalist Local Heroes with a narrow 1-0 margin.
During this year’s tournament, the IAF FC defeated Local Worriers Red with a 2-1 score, in what proved to be a dramatic nail-biting match. IAF FC captain Davit Gevorgyan’s last-minute goal gave our team a one-goal advantage ending the score 2-1. The third game was not played as the opponents, Waco United gave a walkover, thus granting IAF FC full 3 points with a 3 goal advantage.
In the final match of the group stage, IAF was up against the Pineapple Express, whose impressive side proved to be tough opponents. However, thanks to two impressive goals by Parsh and Brinsley, IAF sealed a 2-0 victory and secured the second position in the group, qualifying for the knockout stage of the main cup.
It is noteworthy to mention that the Armenian Sports Club team, comprising of young students from the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy, is also participating in the competition and are currently ranked First in Group L having won all the matches in their group.
