ICCR President visits Indian Cultural Centre

On the 15th of August, Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) visited the Indian Cultural Centre, Armenia. The honourable MP was accompanied by His Excellency K.D Dewal, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republics of India to the Republic of Armenia and Georgia. 

Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe visited Armenian on an official visit upon the invitation of the Indo-Armenian Friendship NGO and based on the recommendation of the Embassy of India. This was the first official visit of a sitting president of ICCR to Armenia.

Upon his arrival, Dr Sahasrabuddhe was welcomed in front of the centre according to Armenian and Indian traditions. In keeping with traditions, the guests also lit the ceremonial lamp before moving to the cultural programs.

A cultural program was organised by Indian Cultural Centre's Shakti Dance Group for the ICCR president. Special guest Kathak performances by Radha Dance Studio's Kristina Sargsyan and a violin performance by Sophie De were also included.

After the short cultural program, Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe interacted with the members of the Indo-Armenian Friendship NGO as well as select representatives of the Indian Community in Armenia. Among the guests present were also Indo-Armenian couples as

 well as Indian students studying in Armenia.

Dr Sahasrabuddhe spoke about the various opportunities that the community can make use of with the support of the ICCR and listened to their queries and suggestions. He also got introduced to each member present and heard their views and interest.

During the visit, the ICCR president was introduced to the facilities of the Indian Cultural Centre and made notes of the various achievements and requirements.

According to Dr Sahasrabuddhe, the Indian Cultural Centre in Armenia is a one of a kind initiative and can serve as a role model to be replicated by others in different countries. 

This being the first-ever visit of the ICCR President to the country, it was a great honour for us to host Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.
